Nib Travel Insurance – how do I make a claim?

How do I file a claim?
Claiming the cost of the consultation or treatment is simple and uncomplicated.

Every day
Daily consultation and care including visits to the dentist, GP, or doctor. Depending on your policy, you may also have insurance for new eyeglasses or contact lenses, chiropractor visits, mental health appointments, and more.

You can check your policy in my NIB to see if you are covered for these services and how much you can claim. Most insurance covers 60-80% of your costs up to your benefit threshold. To apply, you pay your care provider daily and then send us a call via my pen or pen button. Send receipt

Outpatient
If you are referred to a specialist or surgeon, or to a medical clinic for a diagnostic check, check your policy at the end of my pen to see if you are covered or to request pre-approval. Once you know your coverage, visit your doctor and bill us when you make a claim.

Hospital
In case of surgery or cancer treatment, we recommend that you get prior approval before starting treatment. This way you will know for sure what you are covered for and your compensation will be modest.

Some healthcare providers also require a pre-authorization letter before you can begin treatment.

How do I claim a refund?
If your supplier does not file a complaint on your behalf, you must file a complaint. Scan or photocopy any receipt or invoice from your healthcare provider then follow these 3 easy steps:

Do I have to pay for outpatient and hospital consultations or treatments on the same day?
If you meet a provider in our First Choice network, they may be able to claim compensation for your eligible expenses so that you do not have to pay them. Other healthcare professionals may ask you to pay all costs on the day of the visit, even if you have prior approval from the nib. You can ask them about this before your appointment.

Some of the costs you will have to pay on this day may include:

  • Overpayment – the amount you pay if you apply. This only applies to hospital policy and is described in your policy document.
  • Any expense that is not covered by your plan, that is, those that exceed the limits of your benefits and/or are not covered by your policy.
  • Gap Payment – ​​The difference between what health care providers charge and the average market price for treatment.

The preliminary approval will define which of these costs, if any, you will have to pay.

If you see a First Choice Healthcare Provider for a claim covered by your policy, the NIB will pay 100% of your qualifying costs to your benefit limit, subject to any co-payment payable and in accordance with the terms of your policy.

How to pay the deductible?
When you make a claim, your extra money is deducted from the approved amount that we will pay for your advice or treatment. You must pay this excess directly to your health care provider. They may ask you to pay for it that day or send you an invoice.

Sometimes your visit or treatment costs less than your participation. In this case, you pay the full amount for the visit or treatment to your health care provider because we have no other approved costs to cover.

You choose your excess and, depending on your policy, you can pay the excess on-demand or annually. You can request an increase or decrease in this amount by contacting us.
