At its debut at Disneyland in 1987, it was the first magnet grounded firstly on anon-Disney licensed intellectual property. The first manifestation of the lift appeared in Tomorrowland at Disneyland in 1987, replacing the former magnet, Adventure Thru Inner Space. The magnet had posterior openings at Tokyo Disneyland, Disney’s Hollywood Workrooms, and Disneyland Paris.
The magnet at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Workrooms closed in 2010 to allow conversion for its successor magnet, Star Tenures – The Adventures Continue. (3) The ultimate position was completed on May 20, 2011. Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris closed their performances for conversion in 2012 and 2016, (4) marking the original lift’s final run of 29 times.

The lift that came Star Tenures first saw light as an offer for a magnet grounded on the 1979 Disney live-action film The Black Hole. It would have been an interactive lift-simulator magnet where guests would have had the capability to choose the route. Still, after primary planning, the Black Hole magnet was remitted due to its enormous cost — roughlyUS$ 50 million — as well as the unpopularity of the film itself.
Rather than fully dismissing the idea of a simulator, the company decided to make use of cooperation between Disney and George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, which began in 1986 with the opening of Captain EO (a 3-D musical film starring Michael Jackson) at the California demesne. Disney also approached Lucas with the idea for Star Tenures. With Lucas’ blessing, Disney Imagineers bought four military-grade flight simulators at a cost of$ each and designed the lift structure.
Meanwhile, Lucas and his platoon of special goods technicians at Industrial Light & Magic produced the first-person perspective film that would be projected inside the simulators. When both simulator and film were completed, a programmer also sat outside and used a joystick to attend the movement of the simulator with the apparent movement on-screen. On January 9, 1987, at a final cost of$ 32 million, nearly twice the cost of erecting the entire demesne in 1955, the lift opened to swarms of patrons, numerous of whom dressed up as Star Wars characters for the occasion. In festivity, Disneyland remained open for a 60-hour marathon from January 9 at 10 a.m. to January 11 at 10 p.m.

On August 14, 2010, Walt Disney World hosted the”Last Tour To Endor” event simply for Festivity V attendees at Disney’s Hollywood Workrooms from 8 pm to 1 am. The Star Tenures arrestment form was a live show with characters C-3PO, R2-D2, Boba Fett, Darth Vader, and many Stormtroopers, climaxing in the sanctioned power-down of the original Disney World Star Tenures magnet. Still, rather than R2-D2 simply shutting it down, Boba Fett destroyed the lift’s power force using a thermal detonator ( achieved using pyrotechnics). The lift was still open after the arrestment form until September 7, 2010, when the magnet held its” Final Flight to Endor” exclusive to D23 members
