Hawaii Tourism Authority Kauai.  Kaua’i Destination Management Action Plan The Kaua’i Tourism Strategic Plan 2018-2021 and HTA’s Strategic Plan 2020-2025 serve as the foundation for the Kaua’i Destination Management Action Plan (DMAP). The DMAP’s action items were developed by a 21-member steering committee consisting of community members, representatives of the visitor industry, and others. It is a plan of action that will be utilized to restore and rebuild tourism.

Officials HTA and the county looked over the committee’s action items to see if they could be carried out and if they fell within the purview of HTA and the county. About Kaua’i Kaua’i is the oldest and northernmost island in the Hawaiian chain. It is surrounded by emerald valleys, sharp mountain peaks, and rocky outcroppings .According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there were approximately 72,290 people living in Kaua’i in 2019.
The tourism industry is very important to Kaua’i County.One-third of the island’s economy and 38% of jobs are provided by the visitor industry, as stated in the Kaua’i Tourism Strategic Plan.Kaua’i saw 1.3 million visitors in 2019 who spent a total of $1.9 billion there.On any given day, there were approximately 27,695 visitors.The visitor industry, on the other hand, has been significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.When compared to the same last year, Kaua’i’s visitor arrivals are down -69.7% and the number of air seats is down 64.9% as of August 2020.In the second quarter of 2020 alone, Kaua’i County lost 8,200 jobs, with food and beverage jobs accounting for 41.5 percent and accommodations for 70 percent.

Our success metrics are:satisfaction of visitors, sentiment of residents, spending per person per day, and total expenditures of visitors.
Through our Community Enrichment Program, HTA will provide funding for 95 nonprofit events, festivals, and programs across Hawai’i in the year 2020.Hawaii’s residents frequently attend the events in large numbers.
In 2020, HTA will provide funding to 43 state-wide nonprofit organizations and government programs that contribute to the preservation of Hawaiian culture through our Kukulu Ola Program.
In 2020, 34 state-wide nonprofit and government conservation initiatives are supported by our Aloha Aina Program.
The Transient Accommodations Tax (TAT), which people pay when they in legal accommodations across the state, provides funding for HTA’s programs.
