Map Of Niagara Falls Tourist Area- Safety Tips
To ensure a safe and enjoyable visit, we provide essential safety tips and emergency contact information for tourists in the Niagara Falls area. Niagara Falls is a world-famous tourist destination that spans two countries and attracts millions of visitors every year. While the panoramic views and rushing waters are breathtaking, it’s important to be aware of the potential dangers and take necessary precautions to ensure a safe visit.
Here are some safety tips to keep in mind when visiting Niagara Falls:
- Wear shoes with traction: The wooden walkways and pathways around Niagara Falls can be slippery and mossy, especially if you plan to enjoy the Cave of the Winds activity. Hold onto the handrails and be careful. If you’re traveling with little kids, make sure they stay on the right side of the rails. Lots of spots are very close to the edge, and there are Niagara Falls slipping hazards at many points.
- Don’t get too close: The water is far too rough for any kind of stunts or daredevilry. Only one person has survived the fall without a barrel, and if you do get caught pulling a Donkey Kong, there’s a $10,000 fine for trespassing at Niagara Falls. Unless you want to be screamed at by the guards, don’t hang over the edge to get pictures either.
- Walk between the casino and Niagara Falls after dark: Like most towns and cities, there are some places you just don’t need to be walking as a tourist. The American side of Niagara Falls doesn’t have as many attention-grabbing tourist destinations, but it’s tranquil and family-friendly, and it’s safer after nightfall. According to hotel staff, your “safe zone” after dark is between the casino and Niagara Falls itself. The Falls turn off the lights at midnight, and tourists can still be found walking around then, but it’s best to keep your guard up and stay in well-lit areas if you want to feel safe in Niagara Falls.

Map Of Niagara Falls Tourist Area- Planning Your Itinerary
Niagara Falls is a popular destination in North America, straddling the border between the United States and Canada. It has the highest flow rate of any waterfall in the world, including the mighty Victoria Falls in Africa and Iguazu Falls in South America. There are plenty of activities in the area to keep visitors busy for days. Sure, you could visit Niagara Falls in one quick, rushed day, but it is better experienced with a two-day stay (or longer). Niagara Falls is best visited by both the American side and the Canadian side. The American side has the best “get-up-close” to the Falls activities that require several hours of your time. The Canadian side has better views of the Falls with an assortment of non-Niagara Falls activities perfect for people of all ages.
Here is a suggested itinerary for a two-day visit to Niagara Falls:
Day 1:
Your visit to Niagara Falls starts on the American side. Enter the Niagara Falls State Park and park in Parking Lot 1 near the Visitor Center. Purchase your tickets for the Maid of the Mist voyage. This is a twenty-minute boat ride on the Niagara River. Get up close with all three waterfalls (American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Horseshoe Falls) and witness the awesome power of these waterfalls. Ponchos are provided but expect to get wet! Tours run every 15 minutes and last 20 minutes.
After the journey on the Maid of the Mist, walk out to the Observation Tower for views of the Falls and Canada. Next is the Cave of the Winds. The Cave of the Winds was one of our favorite things to do at Niagara Falls. To get to the Cave of the Winds, take the pedestrian bridge to Goat Island. Visitors take an elevator down into Niagara Gorge, then walk along wooden boardwalks to Hurricane Deck. You will get wet!!! It is a thrilling experience, especially for kids. Visitors are provided with ponchos. The Cave of the Winds is open all year.
Day 2:
On the second day, head to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. Cross the Rainbow Bridge to Canada. You will need your passport to cross the border. Once in Canada, park in the Fallsview Casino parking lot. From here, you can walk to all of the attractions. Start with a visit to the Skylon Tower. This tower offers the best views of Niagara Falls. You can also have lunch or dinner at the revolving restaurant. Next, head to the Journey Behind the Falls. This is a series of tunnels and portals that take you behind the Horseshoe Falls. You will get wet here too! Ponchos are provided. The Journey Behind the Falls is open all year. After the Journey Behind the Falls, walk to the White Water Walk.
This is a boardwalk that takes you along the Niagara River. The water is a beautiful shade of blue and the rapids are intense. The White Water Walk is open from May to October. Finally, end your day with a visit to the Niagara SkyWheel. This is a giant Ferris wheel that offers views of Niagara Falls and the surrounding area. The Niagara SkyWheel is open all year.
Here is a 5-day itinerary that will help you make the most of your visit:
Day 1: Exploring Niagara
Begin your day with a hearty breakfast at the Blue Line Diner, a local favorite known for its delicious pancakes. After breakfast, head to Queen Victoria Park to get your first glimpse of the falls and Goat Island. Take a stroll around Clifton Hill and the Fallsview Resort to see everything they have to offer. For lunch, try one of the many dining options in the area. In the afternoon, take a boat ride to the base of the falls and witness the beautiful rainbows in the mist. End your day with dinner at one of the restaurants on Clifton Hill.
Day 2: Ice Wine Festival
Niagara is known for its wineries, and one of the best wines produced here is Icewine. Visit Niagara’s Icewine Festival and try wines from over 20 local vintners. Local chefs will also be on hand with savory treats to pair with the wines. This event is reserved for adults over the age of 19.
Day 3: Spa Day
Take a break from the hustle and bustle of sightseeing and indulge in a relaxing spa day. Niagara Falls has many spas that offer a variety of treatments, from massages to facials. Some of the best spas in the area include the Serenity Spa by the Falls and the Christienne Fallsview Spa.
Day 4: Niagara-on-the-Lake
Take a scenic drive to Niagara-on-the-Lake, a charming town located just 20 minutes from Niagara Falls. The town is known for its wineries, boutiques, and restaurants. Take a stroll down Queen Street and explore the many shops and galleries. For lunch, try one of the many restaurants in the area. In the afternoon, visit one of the many wineries in the area and sample some of the best wines Niagara has to offer.
Day 5: Niagara Falls State Park
Spend your last day exploring Niagara Falls State Park, the oldest state park in the United States. The park offers a variety of activities, including hiking, biking, and fishing. Take a walk along the Niagara Gorge Trail and enjoy the stunning views of the falls. End your day with a visit to the Niagara Falls Observation Tower, which offers panoramic views of the falls.
